OSX for Pwnage Tool on External USB HDD. How?
OSX for Pwnage Tool on External USB HDD. How?
How can I install & run OSX86 for Pwnage Tool on External USB HDD - In a separate partition.
I have a T61 with XP Pro SP3.
I'd like to experiment with OSX86 long term, but right now dont have the TIME & ENERGY to deal with the issues where my current HDD has to be affected in any fashion.
Also I dont want to be bothered by replacing / swapping HDD etc.
ALSO I might not even spend time in trying to make all devices / drivers work.
At the moment I just want to see it RUN... be able to Run the Pwnage tool for my iPhone upgrade since the Windows based tool is not stable at this point.
Also, if time permits later on, to see what its like to run the Mac OSX86 on this T61 and if more inclined later to go with the
Full Blown... Partitioning, Multi Booting on internal HDD, All device drivers & other configurations.
Do advise
- What would be the best / easiest & fastest Distro to go for...
- What kind of SPECIAL / SPECIFIC procedure or configuration I might have to follow to do an External USB Install.

I found this guide helpful
http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index ... 952-AP2.29
And it shows you how to stage everything on a USB connected thumb drive. I did my full 10.6 install on the thumb drive and booted it without issues. Just don't try to sleep the computer.
This ought to get you up and running for Pwnage tool.

Thanks Bo - I'll look into this in more detail later tomorrow / weekend. I never thought about Thumb Drive. That might be better...bozilla wrote:I found this guide helpful

BUT.. How much space would I need? What size was the USB thumb drive you used & would I be able to do the same...?? Especially to RUN the Pwnage tool.
This might even save me the hassle of partitioning the external USB HDD. If I DO SO - Does OSX allow for NON-DESTRUCTIVE Installation into a Partition / Free Space on a HDD or do I have to worry about all the DATA in the other partitions on that HDD getting messed with?
I am only using this external HDD to store files. What do you suggest? (I've use Acronis & Partition Magic kind of tools for ages).
Also which variant of OSX should I go for? iAtKos, Kalyway, Leo4All or another Distro of OSX86?

Re: OSX for Pwnage Tool on External USB HDD. How?
You'll need at least 8GB but might want to go with a 16G. I have an 8 gig on mine and it seems ok. I don't run pwnage tool or itunes or dump 300 meg iphone files on it though.
In terms of OSX builds I currently use iPC 10.5.6 but I am just rounding up a guide on installing 10.6 Snow Leopard from the vanilla DVD onto a USB hard drive.
Stay tuned...
