This question might be wrong here because it is not a specific OP system question, but is also no specific Thinkpad type question ...
I would want one of my TP's (a R31) to boot automatically whenever there is power (either from battery or power cord). The reason for that "odd" request is, that I use one of these machines as a mp3 player (with softsqueeze for those interested).
If there is a power outage and power on again (or I return home switching on the power) should engage the TP to boot and via service running in the background (or startup program) the player software should load and the TP being ready to play music (the controller is another device).
So, is there any way to have a TP "run forever" apart from no power?
Thanks so much for any input on this.

Re: How to boot-up automatically?
This is not an OS or other software feature. Because after a power outage, the OS and supporting software is no longer running. The computer has to re-start before any software will load. On computers that support it, it's a BIOS setup option. I don't know if the R31 BIOS supports auto-restart (I doubt it).

If you have a PC that (re)starts upon power becoming available, you could have that send a Wake-On-Lan signal to the R31.

Re: How to boot-up automatically?
i know you are probably wanting to reuse your current hardware but the best solution for front end media player is a device like a t5700 hp thin client. you can install a real os on them and do anything, plus they have the auto boot on power resume feature. plus they are very cheap on ebay. pretty much anything in the t57xx series would do that splendidly.
by the way they are TINY devices.
