BIOS update question

#1 Post by Sarg » Sat Jan 15, 2011 5:32 am

Hi!
As the desktop computer I use T30 without a battery. I want to update the BIOS to 2.10, but the program requires the inclusion of the battery. If I update the BIOS without the battery, there may be some problems?

Welcome to thinkpads.com!

Normally, the installation program for the BIOS and Embedded Controller requires that a somewhat fully charged battery be present. The main reason is that if for any reason the laptop loses power during the update process, you could end up with a computer that does not boot any more. There have been some hacks that have been made to some of the install programs that enable you to do the upgrade without a battery but it's not something that I would recommend.

The release notes for V2.10 indicate that the BIOS was updated in order to support the IBM wireless 11b/g adapter. Is this the reason why you are considering the upgrade?

Thanks for the quick reply!
No, the reason is different. The second RAM slot is not working and I want to insert into the first slot 1 stick 1GB DDR - 333Mzh - PC2700.
I think the current BIOS version 2.01 do not see this memory. Maybe I'm wrong?
Also, I changed the hard drive to the 80GB and setup does not see his model, although the drive works without problems... :)

Neither for the RAM nor for the larger hard drive do you need to update the BIOS.
It will recognize up to 1GB per RAM slot.
And if you search this forum, you will find instructions on how to repair the RAM slot.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
But I actually prefer Murphy's from Cork!
