T60P 15.4" widescreen

#1 Post by jdom58 » Thu Sep 15, 2011 2:30 pm

Hey folks, can anyone provide some experience with using this with the widescreen WSXGA+ display. The unit I'm considering is pretty well powered with a T7200 Core 2 Duo 2ghz processor, 2 gigs of RAM, and 320gb running WIN 7 Ultimate 64 bit edition and it's in mint condition , but not sure if I would prefer it to the 4:3 ratio which is what I was kinda looking for but the price factor is extremely enticing.

So what do you think of the screen, is it one of the better ones, I replaced the screen on my current T60 to the UXGA model and have been spoiled with it's brightness which is why I'm probably a bit concerned I may be dissapointed with this one.

Thanks

I've owned three 15.4" T60's with WSXGA+ LCDs. All happened to have very nice LCDs. However, I'm sure that they used at least two, if not three, sources for LCDs, so some may be better than others. The T7200 C2D processor is probably the best compromise between heat and power.

15.4" with an WSXGA+ LCD is my favorite display format for a laptop, at this time. I use that format with my work Z61m (with a T7200 CPU) and my home MacBook 15.

Of note, you can swap out the panel on that T60 with a WUXGA panel, if you wish. Only the panel needs to be swapped.

Used to have a T43 with SXGA+ as well as T60p with the same LCD. Great experience.
Brightness was not a problem at all in both of them, even working in sunshine was pretty comfortable.

I could cut my arm off for a 4:3 T400 with SXGA+ and LED backlight ;)

Honestly, out of all the TN panels that ThinkPads were shipped with, WSXGA+ ones seen on T60p/T61/Z61m all the way to W500 is likely the best one in my opinion.

If one must deal with a 16:10 ratio, this is as good as it gets, at least on ThinkPads.

there are two WSXGA+ brands used for T60 and T60p.

you should look out for the LG Philips (FRU 13N7020) panel
which is brighter than the Samsung (FRU 42T0329).

T500 | 15.4"| P8600 | Radeon 3650 | 4GB |
T60p | 14.1"| T2600 | V5250 | 2GB |

history:
T60p | 15.4"| T7600 | V5250 | 3GB | Seagate 7200.4 320 GB | Fan Mod |
T43p | 14.1"| M780 | V3200 | 1GB |
T42 | 14.1"| M745 | Radeon 9000 | 1GB |

Thanks for the responses everyone! I decided to stay with the 4:3 format and found a T60p with similar specs and a 15" screen.
