Video issues with T30

#1 Post by GLE3 » Sat Mar 31, 2012 10:51 am

My 2 year old spilt milk on my T30 lid while closed while I was away at work. The wife said she cleaned it up the best she could and a couple hours later let my son play his games on it. It worked for most of that day then screen went black when booted(no splashscreen, no windows desktop) but you could still hear the windows desktop loading chime. I have a another T30 around for a parts machine so I figured I would open it up and replace any parts that had milk residue on them. Did find spots with dried milk(mostly the bezel under the base of the screen) and on the LCD cable. I swapped out the cable and cleaned up everything. Put it back together and booted to a really dark screen. You can see IBM splashscreen but it is very faint and off center. After some google searches I saw the inverter can cause this so I got back into it and swapped out the inverter too. Same result, dark screen. Any idea on what I should try next? Is one T30 LCD's parts just as good in another T30?

Thanks in advance for any help

All T30 LCDs can be swapped around, same size.
But an XGA LCD needs an XGA LCD-cable and an SXGA+ LCD needs an SXGA+ LCD-cable.
Inverters are the same for both.
Easiest to just swap the whole lid.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
But I actually prefer Murphy's from Cork!

Crap, that is it one is XGA and the other is SXGA. My parts T30 has a cracked LCD, otherwise swapping the whole screen would have been the procedure of choice. Guess I'm shopping for a XGA cable.. Thanks For the help!
