Re-Install hard drive in a T22
Re-Install hard drive in a T22
I last used my laptop on Saturday night and all worked well. I started it up this morning and was greeted with the messages below. I have no idea on what to do.
Hard drive not installed:
If operating system not found,
re-install hard drive.
Hit any key to exit.
When I hit a key the info listed below appears:

Re: Re-Install hard drive in a T22
I would pull the HDD out, and re-seat it in the socket. Might have worked itself loose somehow. On the other hand, the drive could have just died. Try booting from a live CD and run some hard drive diagnostics.
Then again, you could have a BIOS error. Press F1 and check the BIOS settings, and see if the HDD shows up in the BIOS.

Re: Re-Install hard drive in a T22
Hard drive does show up in the BIOS. I will check out the things you suggested. Thanks.
Removed and re-installed hard drive - no change.
When I go into the BIOS setup utility screen I noticed the value listed for MAC Address (Internal LAN) is now all 0 where before there were different numbers there.
Tried to run Linux DSL from the CD and no go. Tried a disk diagnostics from the CD and that was a no go.

Maybe you had a combined Ethernet/modem card?
IIRC your modem gave you grief, so you removed it (AND the ethernet card with it...).
Not to be unkind, but just in case, don't waste any money on that 'oldie'...

Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

Did not physically remove modem, just don't have a driver for the modem.
Strangely the laptop started working again.
Tried to install video driver vftpiy2k.exe for SavageIX8 for W2k. When I extract the files I get an alarm - "cannot be unpacked, executable you are attempting to run has been corrupted". Downloaded the driver again from the Lenova site and got the same result.

Re: Re-Install hard drive in a T22
UPDATE: It appears the problem is the CMOS battery. I found that by going into setup at bootup and putting in the correct date and time, it will bootup and run. I have a battery on the way.

Pesky little CMOS batteries.
BTW a lot of "new" CMOS batteries being sold are really unused, but SEVERAL YEARS OLD. And they're quite dead. You are better off taking yours apart and getting anew fresh Panasonic CR20xx (can't remember if its 1625 or 32) battery from CVS or Walgreens and re-soldering the little tabs from your original battery connector.
