I finally made the switch to Linux.

After getting tired of the time it took W2k to boot up on the old T22, I first did a dual boot with Antix 13 to get a little experience with a Linux program. I had a lot of issues with my Linksys wireless adapter, but with the help of a great support forum, I got it working. After getting my feet wet for some time, I wiped the hard drive and installed MX-14, but changed the wireless adapter to D-link. It worked right out of the box. I really like MX-14 on the T22. There are so many Linux programs to do almost anything and its all free. I am still limited due to the slow 900Mhz processor, but boot up is so much faster and many things in MX-14 are set up for a low resource computer.

There are vast amounts of tweaks you can do, customizations, and down right fun things to do on Linux!!
I'm not a full supporter yet, but they can be fun and great at what they can accomplish.

This post is being brought to you by my T410 running Linux. Welcome to the FOSS world. It's quite amazing how many *nix programs are available out there. Typically I just google search the task I need to do followed by te word "linux" and 95% of the time the first 3 links will have various programs to help me accomplsh the task at hand. This is exactly how I found Pithos. Awesome gstreamer based program that streams pandora with no commercials (even with a free account) and lets me do as many skips as I want.

If you ever need help with Linux, we have a sub-forum for that and a lot of the users here are linux people as well. Pull up a chair and get comfy, you'll like it here.

I am not sure how much I will be using the Thinkpad any more. I was given an HP Pavilion ze4101, which is faster. I have Linux MX-14.2 installed on that.

You're right, whatever the task, there is a Linux program out there to do it, and its free!

I've been running it on TPs since my 760ED in the late 90's up to my current T61.
Installation has gotten way easier than the early days, and may even be more straight forward than any of the MS OSes.
