How to improve screen resolution on T23? how to upgrade to XP?
How to improve screen resolution on T23? how to upgrade to XP?
How can I improve the screen resolution on my T23? It is set at 800X600 pixels and 16 colors and there is no option to change that under Display Properties. I'm stuck in VGA mode apparently. I'm using W2K Pro if that makes a difference. A second question - what's required to upgrade to XP Pro - can I install SP4?
Thanks for your help!

1) It means that the correct graphics driver is not installed. Installing it should fix it.
2) I don't think anything in particular is required. Just obtain an installation CD and run it. If you want to do an in-place upgrade, you need an upgrade CD. If you want to do a fresh install, you need a non-upgrade CD (or find some Lenovo recovery disks with XP Pro for that model).

Re: How to improve screen resolution on T23? how to upgrade to XP?
I went back to your initial post about 2647 vs 2648 hard drives from a year ago. We never got your model type; i.e. 2647-xxx. That will tell us the original (and still hopefully correct) display panel you have. T23 systems were shipped with XGA (1024x768) or SXGA+ (1400x1050) panels. You can find this information on a black and white barcode label on the bottom or from the BIOS main menu.
As dr_st pointed out, it sounds like you don't have the correct video driver installed. At the top of this page, there is a link named Drivers. Click it and navigate to the T23 Display and Video Graphics. You can find the W2K driver package there. You download the file, execute it, it creates a directory on your drive, you then go into a specific subdirectory and execute a Setup.exe file.
As far as installing Windows XP, I don't believe that there was a factory upgrade disk (from 2K to XP). What you would normally do would be to perform a clean install from an XP restore disk set. This will wipe out your existing drive so you will need to backup your files first. Actually the best advice when installing an OS on top of an existing one, is that you should first erase the drive. You will also need any install disks for the programs you have loaded. As far as installing SP4, I don't know. I haven't tried that particular version. My systems are only updated to the official Microsoft SP3 release.

Thanks dr-st and Ray for your help. I'll try to upgrade the video driver first, then tackle an upgrade to XP.

Great! - driver upgrade solved the resolution problem. Now to try an XP install. I'll keep you posted (with lots of questions no doubt).
Thanks again,

Re: How to improve screen resolution on T23? how to upgrade to XP?
I would personally do a straight install of XP rather than an upgrade to XP.
I've seen too many "garbage" stuff come along during upgrades, that sometimes causes problems later on.
The straight install means you start with a "clean" system, no "left overs" from the prior OS.

Yes, that's what I did - fresh install of XP. Good suggestion, thanks.
