T460p 3rd Party SSD Compatibility

#1 Post by Dodge DeBoulet » Sat May 21, 2016 6:33 am

Hi all,

I just ordered a minimally-configured (as far as RAM and disk storage are concerned) T460p. I intend to replace the 500GB 7200RPM hard drive with a 2TB Samsung 850 Pro.

I read on the Lenovo forums that some sort of adapter cable is required, but no part number was given. Has anyone here replaced the T460p hard drive, and were there any issues encountered?

Thanks!

If you look at page 76 of the HMM https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobi ... k04964.pdf, it doesn't look like any adapter is needed. There only seems to be a plastic enclosure attached around the HDD, but you would put this on the SSD if you upgraded.

Oooh, the service manual! :D

Thanks for that, and it certainly looks like you're right about not needing an adapter cable.

I recently received a T460p and installed a Samsung 850 EVO. It went in just fine with no special adapters or anything.

Thanks for the confirmation, jayk. The arrival of my T460p is but a few days away, and I have all of the necessary enhancements on-hand for installation when it gets here.
