Restoration worth it? X41 Tablet
Restoration worth it? X41 Tablet
Recently I was given two X41 Tablets, one that worked and the other in a non working state. The one that works is in very rough condition and the one that's broken has minor scratches aside from a dent which caused the motherboard to fail. Is it worth restoring these computers? I really like the design and didn't want to see it recycled so I'm really looking forward to breathing life back into at least one but I'd love to know if there is any chance of this computer being a lightweight work horse for school and such.

If your schoolwork is just basic typing/document editing, and you can use a non-Windows OS, you might be able to make it work.
If your schoolwork is more demanding, I'd get something newer. The X41T platform is bound by the following limitations:
- Single core CPU from 1.2 to 1.6GHz
- 1 slot DDR2 RAM available that supports up to 1GB, plus 256MB or 512MB soldered RAM, for a maximum of 1.25GB or 1.5GB
- half-length IDE HDD is slow and hard to find; SSD upgrade is a bit complicated due to the IDE port passing through a SATA-to-IDE bridge chip like the T43 and R52.

Re: Restoration worth it? X41 Tablet
I have to use Windows for my school work. I put 2 gigs of ram in my X41 that worked and it works just fine, I was thinking of doing an upgrade to 7, possibly 8 if there is a way. I know 10 doesn't work but Linux is a no go and a Hackintosh if possible would work.

Since you already have an X41, you know what to expect with the X41T in terms of performance. Hackintosh is probably a no-go.Stimov wrote: ↑Fri Apr 05, 2019 8:05 amI have to use Windows for my school work.
