I have a L510 2873 A16 model with the stock T6570cpu installed....looking on lenovo detailed specifications on the l510 this shows a i7-620m cpu as the fastest ...so I do understand the socket differance & have replaced cpu's previously on other thinkpad's & am getting ready to update the bios also, so any information woul be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: L510 2873A16 Cpu Upgrade
If you're 100% sure that it's a T6570 inside your L510, then you're limited to Core 2 Duo CPUs for upgrades.
I'm not familiar with the L510 (never seen an L series to be honest), but if it has Core i5 models, it means that those have a completely different system board from the one inside your L510-- it's simply impossible for a single board to support both CPUs.
If you need a faster CPU, get at least a P8700 or T9600. A T9800 or T9900 could work as well.

Re: L510 2873A16 Cpu Upgrade
Yes, L410 and L510 use only Core 2 Duo (and contemporary Celeron/Pentium) CPUs. The i3/i5/i7 generation only made it into the L412/L512 refresh. I think the chassis is the same (don't take my word for it, though), but you'd have to swap system boards if you want to upgrade to that generation. Otherwise, you can use one of the high-end Core 2 Duo CPUs axur-delmeria has suggested.
Thinkpad 25 (20K7), T16 Gen 3 (21MQ), Yoga 14 (20FY), T430s (IPS FHD + Classic Keyboard), X220 4291-4BG
X61 7673-V2V, T60 2007-QPG, T42 2373-F7G, X32 (IPS Screen), A31p w/ Ultrabay Numpad
