Where to get high current 5V and 12V on X210?
Hi all-
I just picked up this guy for experimentation, but I still need to power it. It comes with an adapter that looks like it pins out the standard Molex 4-pin, so it appears to consume both 5V and 12V. I'll try to measure the SATA connector one of these days to see if it has 12V, but I doubt it does.
In the meantime, anyone know where else on the board I might be able to pick off high-current 5V and if / where 12V exists?
Cheers,
R

I'm not sure about the X210 but in the interest of not accidentally killing a such low number board...I would recommend getting a cheap PC power supply and shorting the green and black wires to turn it on. Then you have as much +5V and +12V as you could ever want or need.
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.
The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

Grab 5V from USB. I doubt high current 12V exists at all, but you may want to check the LCD backlight power.flyingfishfinger wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2019 3:26 pmHi all-

51nb X210 with community EC mod, me_cleaner and recelled 99W*h battery; X230 with coreboot, me_cleaner and nitrocaster's FHD mod as a backup; R500 for guests; T60 just for the looks.

Re: Where to get high current 5V and 12V on X210?
I took "12V" straight from the battery, since that sits at 11.1V...which turns out is close enough for the USB-C card, which regulates down to 5V anyway.
For 5V, I'm guessing the usual 500mA current limit applies if it's drawn from USB, unless the internal / PCIe ports don't regulate that properly?

I've managed to shutdown my X210 by attaching [censored] to USB power leads, so probably the current limiter doesn't work as good as it should have worked, or is not present on some ports. I don't have a sane variable current load to test it properly tho.flyingfishfinger wrote: ↑Fri Nov 08, 2019 2:53 pmFor 5V, I'm guessing the usual 500mA current limit applies if it's drawn from USB, unless the internal / PCIe ports don't regulate that properly?
