2 external hard drives at once?

Hello everyone! i have question concerning safety of hardware. I have older vaio laptop, like 7 years old, and i would like to connect two external 2.5 inches hdds, and then copy a lot of data from one external to another external drive (one port is usb 3.0 and other 2.0). But i was wondering is it not dangerous for motherboard or other elements of computer, as it will need to power up 2 ext. hdds and then copy data for few houres... or im too sensitive and everything should be fine? thank you very much and wish you great day!

If you're worried about the USB ports not having enough power, you can use a powered USB 3.0 hub and plug both external drives to it..

The usb 3.0 drive works in most cases without a problem on port 2.0

i worry that motherboard can be damaged becouse hdd's will drain lot of power from usb sockets...

This sounds very baseless. If a motherboard cannot supply power, the devices will simply not work. I have not heard of a single case where anything was damaged in such a scenario.

I connect 2 or 3 external USB HDDs (all 2.5" drives) and one or two USB Flash drives to these T61s all the time. That's how I do my backup & transfers. Back up (replicate) off the main system and then connect the HDD or thumb drive to the spare systems and replicate to the 2nd or 3rd (or 4th...) computer.
