X41 doesn't keep time when it's powered off [solved]
X41 doesn't keep time when it's powered off [solved]
My X41 recently started not to keep time when it's powered off. It's keeping the CMOS data, even if I remove the main (14.4V 4.5AH) battery and unplug the power cord.
I renewed the CMOS battery by soldering a new compatible Sony CR2032 to its socket cable that is I didn't buy a brand new original one. I plugged it into motherboard and tried, the same problem persists: It keeps CMOS data but not time.
I had recently apgrade the BIOS version to no-1802. Not sure if it's related to it but this problem started to pop up around the same time after I did this upgrade.
Any comments are appreciated.

Re: X41 doesn't keep time when it's powered off
Did you try disconnecting all power sources and the CMOS battery for one minute and then go to BIOS and reset to defaults?

Re: X41 doesn't keep time when it's powered off
I had a T60 that did something that sounds like this. Eventually replaced the motherboard. Never did figure out what the cause was - in BIOS the clock was not moving.

Hmm do you think it is a dead CMOS crystal?theterminator93 wrote: ↑Mon May 11, 2020 3:42 pmI had a T60 that did something that sounds like this. Eventually replaced the motherboard. Never did figure out what the cause was - in BIOS the clock was not moving.

I'm certainly no electrical engineer, so for all I know it could have been! I bet that old system board is now part of an iPhone somewhere now...

What type of "CMOS data" are you referring to ?

Re: X41 doesn't keep time when it's powered off
Just taken a look at your T60's problem. You said that the clock jumped back a random amount. My clock never did this. It just doesn't keep time when powered off. When powered on and the clock is set, then it keeps time perfectly.theterminator93 wrote: ↑Mon May 11, 2020 3:42 pmI had a T60 that did something that sounds like this. Re: X41 doesn't keep time when it's powered off
Well, this X41 has not been used too much. It's my secondary laptop which I occasionally use. it's been never used heavily.theterminator93 wrote: ↑Mon May 11, 2020 5:18 pmI'm certainly no electrical engineer, so for all I know it could have been! Re: X41 doesn't keep time when it's powered off
if I remove both batteries and start up the X41, I experience a long wait (about 1 minute or so) at the boot, which then says "date & time is wrong, set them.." By CMOS data I was referring to it
