T23 - BIOS Update need help
T23 - BIOS Update need help
Hi all,
i newly got a T23 with dead battery. i downloaded latest BIOS v1.20(Non-Diskette) from lenovo eol site but with dead battery it doesnt allow me to install. then i googled how to update BIOS with dead battery. i found out these links below :
https://thinkpad-forum.de/threads/38609 ... -ohne-Akku
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Talk:BIOS_Upgrade
i created DOS bootable Floppy diskette also a USB flash stick , when i start in DOS mode and do "QKFLASH.EXE" it returns with this error " !!! Not enough memory available, or, memory manager is present !!! "
current BIOS version of the machine is :
BIOS Version: 1.03b (1AET43WW)
BIOS Date: 2001-09-25
EC Version: 1.02
when i read Readme file of v1.20 (here: https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/p ... uj20us.txt) it says :
<1.20 - 1AET64WW>
NOTE:
This BIOS version will only work with the Embedded Controller Program
Version 1.06a (or higher)
i dont know if i should first update to an older version but also i cant find old versions of BIOS and EC updates for T23 any way.
i really dont know how to update the BIOS and EC for my old but new for me lovely IBM T23. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Re: T23 - BIOS Update need help
That can all be found in the Drivers link at the top of this page.
Update to BIOS 1.20 first, then update to EC 1.06a, via either Floppy or CD, don't try it via USB.

@RealBlackStuff
Thanks for response but i already tried floppy also.
If i write Diskette image by v1.20 directly, it doesnt update because of dead battery that it warns me to charge
If i copy v1.20 to DOS bootable floppy diskette and run in DOS mode, it gives Not enough memory warning i mentioned in my first post above
I dont know what else i can do. Also current installed BIOS is too old version, previous owner didnt bother to update i guess. I dont know if that too old version doesnt let 1.20 version to be installed.

Re: T23 - BIOS Update need help
I successfully updates BIOS with really odd method lol
I connected X31 battery to T23 charge connectors at the back with 5 cables. I had to tape each cables to their specific connector one by one carefully. Then i had enough charge to flash the BIOS
It took my hours but at the end it is satisfying to see success.

Cool. you made a useful external battery cable. mine is not that professional as i am not much technical. i just taped to connectors that i had to re-tape again and again because wires were loosing everytime i move the machine downside up.
if i need again, i may consider to make a tool like yours
thanks again for your advises and responses.
