Thinkpad T23 Supplement files - issue

#1 Post by DoubleFace » Tue Mar 31, 2020 2:17 pm

Hello

I've been getting issues with installing last two devices on my laptop. I figured I might want to try drivers from supplement disk, however the installation guide is not that very much clear
4. Start Installation from the temporary directory

4.1. Run Setup.exe C:\Win98\APMINST.INF in the temporary directory
4.2. Refer to the Windows 98 documentation and instructions on the
screen to complete the installation.

NOTE: ACPI mode installation does not require step 4-1, 4-2
but just run "Setup.exe".

5. Apply INTEL INF Installer Utility (in Windows Supplement File)

ThinkPad A30, A30p, A31, A31p and T23, T30 should use INFINST_ENU.exe
in Windows Supplement File ( 1AOC13WW Version 1.30 or later) instead
of this utility to be able to enumerate newer INTEL chipset in these
systems.
Ok, so what does that mean, if I don't need ACPI drivers, I should not do first two steps?

Second, There is no INTEL INF Installer Utility in the Supplement file, so where I should be getting it from?

I'm actually wondering if this supplement installation is any useful. I know one device is ACPI and second is for chipset. However I can't fin any work drivers for the first one, and when I install drivers for chipset I get blue screen.

Well now, all my devices are allright using recovery disc sets.
If in need post me a PM, I can share supplemental CD ISO.

i would like to share my solution to install Windows 98 in APM mode on T23

1- just copy "win98" folder which contains .CAB files from Win98 CDROM to harddisk (i created D:\ partition and copied to D:\win98) -- dont directly copy whole CD, we just need Win98 folder inside Win98 CDROM which contains .CAB files
2- extract "Installation support for Windows 98 - ThinkPad R40, T30, T40/p, T41, T42, X30, X31 - v1.0.1" download link here : http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc ... isos98.exe
as written in read me file : https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/p ... isos98.txt it automatically extracts to C:\DRIVERS\W9X\INSTW98
(note: even it says T23 is not supported by this file, it works fine in my experience)

3- then in WIN98SE folder there must be .inf file named "APMINST.INF"
4- copy "APMINST.INF" to the "win98" directory we created and copied from W98 CDROM
5- start the system in MS-DOS mode, you can use W98 CD or startup diskette
6- and locate win98 directory which contains .CAB files and APMINST.INF file ( in my example it is "D:" and then "dir win98" and type "setup.exe D:\win98\APMINST.INF" (i guess it is letter type sensitive - upper case or lower case however file/folder names are, otherwise w98 installation can return with an error)
7- then Win98 installation should start up

- all drivers from lenovo eol website will be installed successfully for all hardwares in device manager (i advise you install S3 video driver first and then Audio and third chipset - supplemental file and then the rest)
- in APM mode Windows 98 standby issue is fixed and resumes fine
my ThinkCollection: X20, X31, X40, X601s, X61, X230, T23, T42, T60
