Where can I find a trustworthy download? And can I install it using wine (I'm on linux)

Look at the top of this page. Just below the banner there's a row of links. Right in the middle is "Drivers"; click it, or open it in a new tab. Search for R40. Click it. Set the Category to "BIOS". Choose the correct BIOS based on the Machine Type of your R40.

And no, you cannot install it using Wine. That's the worst thing you can do.
