P51 Mouse Freeze Issue

#1 Post by shahidt » Tue Mar 08, 2022 3:29 am

Hello. I have a Lenovo P51, model 20MNS03U00, bios version N1UET82W 1.56, running Windows 10 Pro. Since the last couple of months, my mouse has been freezing all of a sudden. I exclusively use the Trackpoint and have the Touchpad disabled.

Sometimes I'd go days without an issue, sometimes mere minutes. Whether I am doing anything resource intensive doesn't matter. It's just the mouse that freezes, and I am able to use the rest of my applications and keyboard without issues.

I tried uninstalling and re-installing mouse drivers, uninstalling just 'Synaptics Pointing Device' from device manager, checking for updates on Windows Updates and Lenovo Vantage, enabling/using the touchpad only, etc., but none of them seem to resolve the issue.

I still have warranty and wonder whether it is a hardware issue. Before it freezes, the trackpad works perfectly though. I haven't dropped or mishandled my laptop. It mostly sits on a table over a laptop cooler fan.

Has anyone else faced something similar. What should I do?

If it's under warranty, ask them to replace the keyboard (which has the trackpoint integrated).
