Can an FRU C3714 MB replace a 44C3712 MB on a T60?

#1 Post by Skater » Wed May 25, 2022 5:38 am

Can anybody tell me whether an FRU C3714 MB can replace a 44C3712 MB on a T60 and what, if anything, the differences are?
Thanks very much.

Hi, Skater

From what I can Google they are both 15.4" T60 boards, the 44c3712 has Intel GMA graphics and the 44c3714 has discrete ATi Mobility Radeon X1400 graphics. If you were swapping the Intel one for the X1400 you would need a discrete heatsink fan from 15.4" wide-screen T60/T60p, T61/T61p. Heatsinks from 14.1" and 15" 4:3 standard chassis's won't fit on wide-screen boards. As for the 14.1" wide-screen chassis I am not sure.

The T61 heatsink fans do a much better job at cooling the X1400 than the stock T60 one.

Other than that it should be a straight swap.

Hope this helps!

Thanks very much for the great info. However, you lost me a little when you differentiated the "15.4" wide-screen T60/T60p, T61/T61p fans" from the "14.1" and 15" 4:3 fans."

I'm assuming you're referring to one like this:

I read your response while at work and remembered I might have some heatsink fans to share as an example when I got home. Turns out I need to correct myself. Fans from a 14.1" 4:3, 15" 4:3 and 15.4" widescreen can be interchanged. It's only the 14.1" widescreen fans that can't be swapped outside of its form factor. I've linked a comparison image here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1GrlOHA ... sp=sharing

And yes, the fan you linked looks like it would fit your 15.4" no problem.

Oops! I also meant to ask whether my SATA HD will still boot and run my T61 after I change the MB, given that it now has Intel GMA graphics and the 44c3714 has discrete ATi Mobility Radeon X1400 graphics? If not what will I have to do to use my HD?

I assume you mean T60 and not T61?
Your HDD will still boot but when you get into Windows it won't be able to use your Intel Graphics drivers and it will see your graphics adapter as a Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. Uninstall your Intel GMA drivers and download the ATi graphics drivers through the links at the top of the forums.

Thanks for the concise, lightning-fast reply. Now, that you've answered all the questions I had, and I've watched a number of Youtube videos on disassembling T60s, I'll be able to change my MB without screwing something up.

I'll let you and others who may have to do the same thing someday know how it went when I'm done.

Take care.
