T61 Replaced dead motherboard with 42W7875 6463CTO, no boot.

I posted here years ago regarding a dead mobo, Nvidia 140 with a blown fuse, I just put it away and bought a T420. Recently I dusted it off with a view to gifting it to a friend who just wants internet and office facilities so I looked for an Intel integrated graphics mobo and found one on the usual auction place, the vendor based in my home country, cheap but if its dud I want my money back.
My machine has 8Gb of Crucial and a T9300, I fitted the mobo and let the battery charge, all OK. Disappointment came when I saw the power lights come up on power button on followed by the CAPS lock and NUM lock in sequence, then nothing. Putting my ear close I hear the fan spin up briefly then shut down.
I am methodical and fairly confident that I did not trap wires or poorly insert the RAM or CPU. I powered it without a hard drive or optical drive, the PCMCIA adapter was fitted along with the two wireless cards.
Having searched the internet I can only find two unanswered posts with the same fault. I did find contradictions on other forum posts regarding compatibilty of T9300 with the planar 42W7875 and similar contradictions on whether the board would post with a dead lithium battery (I owned a Supermicro mobo that would not POST with a flat CMOS cell).
So before I commit to another teardown I am interested to know if anyone has seen this fault or has ideas. Without any other idea I was going to check the battery votage with a small load fitted, I do suspect it is probably dead as it has to be 12 years old but then again I have a calculator with a 17 year old C2032 that still works.
As for the CPU compatibility this seems to be a late issue planar so I would expect Penryn, maybe?

Put in a non-Penryn CPU, e.g. T7100/T7300/T7500.
Install Middleton's BIOS: https://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Middleton%27s_BIOS
Put the T9300 back in.
It should boot without CMOS or with a working CMOS.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
But I actually prefer Murphy's from Cork!

If you've written down the right FRU for the planar (15.4" T61) then it will boot the Penryn CPU.
Try booting with the battery removed and on AC.
If that doesn't work, with both no battery and no AC, depress the power button for 30 seconds, then plug in the AC, no battery, and try switching it on.

My apologies for the late reply, working away.
I now have a T7300, €4 delivered from the usual auction site. I have not tried it yet as I am still busy. Will let the thread know when I have fitted it.

Yes, it looks like it should boot with a Penryn according to the few resources I have looked at, I have a T7300 now and when I get time I will fit it and find out. I already tried draining the caps and that did not work.
