T590 Start-Up freeze

#1 Post by MadHatterIII » Tue Apr 04, 2023 2:53 am

Good morning forum,

thanks for having me.

I've got a serious issue with a T590 and couldn't find a fitting topic in the forum.

It started freezing during win10 Pro start-up.
A rollback of windows didn't help, so I wiped the hd and reinstalled windows.
The system already froze during first shutdown of the installation. After a forced shutdown it continued with the initialisation of windows.
It worked for a while and now it freezes either during windows start-up, start-screen and every regular shutdown of windows.
Windows still starts and works normally in safe-mode but freezes at shutdown.
I ran a full bios hardware check but no errors occured. Every test was passed.
I have the log but I don't see a way to upload it.

I didn't change the hardware, i.e. no additional RAM ist installed.

Does anyone know what this behaviour might indicate to?

Thanks in advance.

I started my T590 the first time since the hardware test and it works fine.
I shut it down and restarted it 10 times and got no issues so far.
Let's see what happens if I stress this Laptop a bit with some challenging software.

Hello again,

Win10 worked for two days straight but this morning it flipped me the finger again and froze like before.
I did another hardware check but got no errors.

At one point I selected the debugging-mode. I haven't done that before, for I have no knowledge what this actually does.
Since then windows doesn't frezze anymore.

I'm curious, if this will help again next time.

Freezing is quite likely to be a RAM fault, so if it happens again you could try swapping the RAM, next most likely is the SSD

Diagnostic tests often come back fine, but there can still be an underlying hardware fault

Thanks for the reply.

Since my last post it froze only one more time.
It started with connected usb-devices were not recognized anymore, then freezing win10 again.
After doing random stuff it works fine again.

SSD was new from the beginning and I added 16gb since last post. The original RAM is on-board, so no swapping that one.

Run memtest with a linux distro of choice... If ram related, memtest will show it. No need to swap ram at all to diagnose potential ram related issue
