G50 hardware maintenance manual / battery capacity

#1 Post by wujstefan » Wed May 08, 2024 3:21 am

I got tempted to finish the G-project (G40, G41, G50), and am a little bit concerned about the latter. I have halted the work on it after installing SXGA+ IPS led-modded and installing T2700 CPU (hell now this one is EXPENSIVE nowadays!) in it due to house construction, but now is the time.

The unit I have sports a... 2.2Ah genuine battery. It is just silly how light the battery itself is, and I wanted to check out what were the options for the battery for it. Thinkwiki.de had a HMM in Japaneese, but it is not available anymore.

Aren't these the same batteries as G4x?

Page 147 (numbered 143) lists several battery options.

Update: Thinkwiki.org still had a working link to the G50 Japanese HMM:
https://download.lenovo.com/jp/mobiles_pdf/41W7875.pdf
Batteries are listed on page 100 (numbered 94). 42T5200 (Panasonic) and 42T5202 (Sony).
Thinkpad 25 (20K7), T16 Gen 3 (21MQ), Yoga 14 (20FY), T430s (IPS FHD + Classic Keyboard), X220 4291-4BG
X61 7673-V2V, T60 2007-QPG, T42 2373-F7G, X32 (IPS Screen), A31p w/ Ultrabay Numpad

Hey, thank you, this is super useful!

1. I don't have a working 12-cell from G4x, so was not sure if those work.
2. It seems G50 for whatever reason was actually offered with 4-cell batt!
3. Next step: hunt for a G4x cable for SXGA+ ;) And I need to check my garage for a well-preserved SXGA+! Or maybe an UXGA will work? I'll find out ;)

Do you know of a BIOS upgrade file or any source of drivers for the G50?

I've got them (somewhere) for W2K. For W7 32bit X60 drivers seem to work perfectly fine. Never tried anything for XP for this one though! You can PM me if you need for either.

No BIOS upgrades though. And since I own exactly 1 unit I'm not especially trying to test anything :D
