Battery calibration disappeared from Lenovo Vantage

#1 Post by thinkquan » Fri May 24, 2024 6:44 am

Just noticed that the battery calibration section has disappeared from the latest version of Lenovo Vantage. A new version of Lenovo Vantage appears to be running my T470 and T430, however on T420 it is still running an older version of Vantage, with the battery calibration visible. I have not done any recent manual software updates to Vantage, so this must have been pushed out automatically in the background. The last time I did a calibration was about a month ago, so this is a recent change.

Is anyone else noticing this?

What are your recommendations to do battery calibration on ThinkPads going forward?

Well, my recommendation is that battery calibration in general is not strictly necessary. When done proactively it may indeed show a more accurate gauge, at the cost of putting unnecessary charge/discharge cycles on the battery, which is the primary cause of long-term battery wear.

You can discharge the battery to 0 or almost 0 during normal use. I understand it is not the most convenient thing to do as you have to manually plug in the adapter when it reaches 0 or wait until the laptop turns off. However even running it down to 2-5% may be sufficient to make the gauge mostly accurate.

Thanks for your input.

I may have found a solution, install Lenovo Commercial Vantage. It has dark mode, and not as many ads as Lenovo Vantage.

Actually most of the options - be it useful or not - disappeared from Lenovo Vantage.

No quick diabler for mic, camera or speakers; no "start minimized" option, no battery recalibration, no system checkup, no battery icon, and much more. Progress, as they say :D

I have actually asked this question on Lenovo forum, and got a response like "Lenovo is working to make the best customer experience". As kind version of "Kiss my a.." as it comes. Well, frustration and anger is an experience after all. Maybe some take it as their best.

Lenovo Vantage was somewhat useful before. Now it's useless. And the "update" was pathetic to that. It seems it was close in time with removal of all the olders' system drivers from automatic System Update service, so maybe it was just some sort of corporate move.

They also forgot to rename it to LeNoNo DisadVantage.

It seems to me that Lenovo separated this function so that users could not renew their older battery and then had to buy a new battery or a new notbeook.

Is it possible to somehow install the old version of Lenovo Vantage where it was possible to reset the battery without any problems?

Thanks

Restart your laptop and reinstall Lenovo Vantage from the Microsoft Store.
