Thinkpad 750P display issue

#1 Post by andybritt2002 » Fri Jun 07, 2024 10:58 am

Hello everyone, and Happy Friday to you if you are reading this today.

I recently acquired a Thinkpad 750p... Everything was working prior the laptop getting shipped to me. The box did get beat up a little bit, but there is no external physical damage to the laptop that I can see.

When I turn on the laptop, the screen illuminates for a split second, along with a brief whine noise, then goes back to a black screen.

The laptop is working with a external monitor attached.

Does anyone have any idea about what may be wrong? Is it possible that this is a inverter issue?

Thank you for your time in reading this

Probably a faulty screen or backlight.

Understood. Is there a chance of this being a inverter problem? or a repairable problem? Screen parts for this seem extremely rare.

It could be but can you see anything on your screen when using a flash? If so, you can have the backlight replaced using an LED which cost your ~8 bucks.
If not, tear it down and install it on another 755x/355x with STN/DSTN and test it. (It seems all 750x/755x/355x/360x share the same display and touch connectors/pinouts) Physically it does not fit P/PE series but it helps you to find and fix the inverter board issue. Adjust the contrast until you can see something, but if it is still a black screen, your monochrome stn might be defective.
If windows for pen computing was installed and your stylus works well, the front and rear touch panels then have no problems at all. You can then find another working 9.5 inch STN and have your old one replaced.
