Any fix for battery not charging on P72 other than the standard fixes?
Any fix for battery not charging on P72 other than the standard fixes?
Good day all,
As a bit of background, I have had a similar issue on an older lenovo thinkpad, and the "unplug battery and hold power button" fix worked... here it doesnt... at least it doesnt reliably.
I recently picked up a used P72 and have been updating pretty much everything to max spec. The original battery would not charge.
So - after a bunch of research, I picked up an aftermarket battery and installed it - and all seemed well. Then after a few days, it would just sit at a certain percentage and not charge. I tried deleting the driver, reinstalling it... no luck.
I then tried the "old faithful", and pulled the battery and held the power button for a minute. That worked... for another few days.. as I type this I'm no longer charging and just sitting around 83%.
I ran the Lenovo test suite and got a failed charge test.... duh! lol.
So - before I pull the machine apart - again... I wanted to see if there is a true fix for this?
I checked for firmware updates and everything says I'm up to date... and the Lenovo support site about battery firmware says my machine isn't affected...
I'm Stumped. I'm sure its something in the charge circuit that gets reset when you do the unplug-replug deal..
I love this machine - but its kindof worthless if I can't rely on the battery to charge.

Most likely original battery died, and so did the aftermarket.
Id suggest hunt down a replacement OEM battery.

Thanks - do you have a preferred source? Its a bit of a minefield trying to find a real oem battery. Not been able to find it at the Lenovo site.

eBay is usually my go-to. never tried shopping from ifixit but they might have a source?
you could also buy multiple aftermarkets and settle for the first one that works properly.

If you go on Ali the KingSener batteries have a good reputation and are very reasonably priced (no affiliation).

Why is my P1 Gen 7 so much better on battery? Cool, quiet, fast — but not on AC.
