Connecting IdeaPad to Dock

#1 Post by phil123 » Sun Nov 17, 2024 5:31 pm

Hi everyone,

I have been trying to figure out how I can connect my laptop to the dock. I have connected the two and was able to have the mouse working when it was plugged into the dock but nothing else that was connected to the dock worked. All of the drivers have been updated. I mainly want to be able to have at least 1 monitor plugged into the dock and working.

Laptop:
IdeaPad 5 2-in-1 16IRU9(#83DU)

Dock:
ThinkPad USB-C Dock Gen2

I am really thankful for any help,

Phil

This laptop does not support Thunderbolt from what I have read. A Dell or HP or Apple laptop supporting it would work with this kind of dock (apart from PoE, power indicator, power button, shared MAC address) but some docks are able to deal with that.

What's the model # of the dock? Is it 40AY, or a different one?
Planned Purchase: T480s i5-8350 FHD Touch
Impulse Buy: Thinkpad not named for safety reasons

Lenovo's product page for the 40AS dock leads to the [Option Compatibility Matrix page](https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/accs-guide)

From there, there's the compatibility matrix for 2021-2023 models: https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/opti ... _2023.xlsx

It doesn't list any issues with your laptop and dock combo, so I guess your issue is specific to your particular unit (most likely the dock) rather than a general compatibility issue. It could be a cable issue, a dock firmware issue, or even a hardware fault (quality control issue). It's hard to know without further testing (with other laptops/devices and/or cables).

Hello,
according to the Accessories and Options Compatibility Matrix (OCM), your dock isn't compatible to your notebook. Lenovo Smartfind shows three compatible docks https://smartfind.lenovo.com/accessorie ... de=SMNJZ4K
