T440P SATA 2.5In Issues

I just recently got aT440P and the original hard drive was working just fine, but was missing a caddy. I bough a crucial bx500 (1TB) SATA SSD and tried switching it out. I connected it and it will not show up as my drive. And the hard drive also does not work anymore when connected again. I am going to order a caddy to try and make the connection tighter, but was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions. I feel like the SATA input may have been damaged but not sure.

Do you mean it doesn't show up in the BIOS, the installer won't see it or something else? Testing the drives in another PC/Notebook, if possible, seems like low hanging fruit.
